Domestic Abuse Support in North Powys
ACE Recovery Toolkit The Children and Young People Adverse Childhood Experiences Recovery Toolkit is an 8 week group programme that uses a combination of creative activities and group working to develop children and young people’s resilience and give them opportunity to experience the healing of relational support. It provides information and education that enables children and young people to cope with the adversity they have experienced, (and may do so in the future). The programme is provided free of charge and is delivered in person.
Break 4 Change is a 10 week programme designed to support families who are being impacted by Child to Parent (Caregiver) Abuse. The programme aims to provide strategies and approaches to bring about positive change, reducing the parent’s sense of isolation and the young person’s feelings of entitlement. It is free of charge and is delivered in person.
We offer one to one support in Schools on the effects of domestic abuse. We also facilitate group work for Children and Young People aged 6-18 years, outside of educational hours. We provide a safe group environment for children who have experienced, been affected by or witnessed domestic abuse. These are split in two different groups, the STAR club and the STAR teenage programme. The Young People can understand and explore their feelings around what they have experienced. The club is run over 8 weeks, covering a range of vital topics, the children are supported to manage feelings associated with Domestic Abuse. Children learn practical skills around managing anger and keeping safe and they Understand that they are not alone.

Crime Prevention Education
The Wales Police Schools Programme provides a wrap-around service to schools in Wales offering crime prevention education and supportive policing services captured in the Programme’s strap line. The Schools Police officers deliver a series of Crime Prevention lesson deliveries and Supportive School Policing initiatives that aim to:
- Educate children and young people about the harm substance misuse can cause to their health, their families and the wider community
- Achieve a reduction in the levels of crime and disorder within our young communities.
They are also able to offer a wide variety of assembly presentations. The assemblies offer flexibility and ensure the WPSP keeps pace with emerging threats, trends and issues. A series of vlogs and other materials are also available on our dedicated SchoolBeat cymru website.
The Programme has a corporate approach to ensure that all children, 5 to 16 years old across Wales receive the same accurate and up to date information.
The SPOs work closely with Pastoral, Behaviour and Safeguarding leads in schools to support the newly developing Health and Well-being curriculum
SPOs also support schools through supportive policing practices; dealing with incidents using the School Crime Beat policy and offering restorative resolutions including restorative conferencing when required.

Powys County Council Child Exploitation Team.
The Child Exploitation Hub is a team within Powys Children’s Services. Exploitation is an umbrella term for child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation and county lines, on-line harm, radicalisation, forced labour, forced marriage and domestic servitude. We work with children (aged up to 18 years), families, agencies and communities providing specialist support to children identified to be at heighted risk or who have been exploited, it is our aim to disrupt harm, support children’s recovery and build resilience and safety within their family and professional network.
At a preventative level we can offer advice and guidance to professionals and schools working with children to raise awareness of what child exploitation is, and we can share evidence-based resources to aid communication and intervention with children.

Powys County Council Youth Services Open Access.
The Open Access Youth Team offers a wide range of activities and opportunities to young people aged 11-25. The service is voluntary based and is open ended in nature. This means the youth workers are able to build a significant relationship with young people. This often gives the youth worker unique understanding of young people and a better knowledge to tailor their work to suit the individual needs. Over time this leads to positive outcomes and the empowering of young people to make informed decisions about their lives and futures.
The sessions are delivered by the 12-hour youth workers and are planned in conjunction with the schools. The school and community knowledge and intelligence feeds into this planning and responds to local need. These groups are formed around the needs of young people and are based around topical conversations, awareness days and any school-based issues that may have happened that week! There are drop-in sessions for young people during breaktimes and lunchtimes where young people can access the youth workers for advice and guidance on a range of issues or topics. They form close relationships with the Wellbeing and Pastoral departments in each school to ensure that the provision of support is targeted to the young people who need it most.

Youth Advocacy ( White Ribbon)
The youth advocacy program is for 14–18-year-olds both male and female to understand what healthy and unhealthy relationships are, learn about domestic abuse, sexual violence, and the legislation around issues that pupils face on a daily basis such as sexting. It also teaches pupils about gender-based violence and the root causes associated with this. It is a two-hour session followed by a ceremony where the pupils will receive a certificate and where they can make a pledge to the white ribbon to become a role model within their school and call out unwanted behaviour.
