Council Tax: Unoccupied and periodically occupied properties
Council Tax Premiums
Under Section 139 of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, the Council has determined to charge a Council tax premium of 50% on long-term empty properties and periodically occupied properties with effect from the 1st April 2017. From the 1st April 2023, Periodically occupied properties will be 75%
Empty Properties
We want to see as many empty homes as possible in Powys brought back into use, and we have developed various financial packages to encourage people to bring them back into use. Empty properties can affect the community and cause many problems, such as attracting pests and anti-social behaviour.
Discounts and exemptions on properties
Uninhabited, unfurnished, empty, or uninhabitable properties may be exempt from Council Tax. Specific types of properties are also exempt when they are dedicated solely to a special purpose.
