A Powys primary school will be supported by a team of senior education officers after Estyn inspectors felt that it was in need of significant improvement, the county council has said.

Powys County Council will support Archdeacon Griffiths Church in Wales Primary School following its Estyn inspection that took place in October.

Estyn found that the school provides a supportive and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and valued during their inspection. However, inspectors were of the opinion that the school is in need of significant improvement following the inspection.

Both the school and the council have accepted the report and recommendations, which will form the basis of a joint and detailed action plan to address key areas requiring improvement.

The school and its governing body will work with council officers to identify the reasons for the inspection outcome and to deliver the improvements that are required. Staff, pupils and parents will be fully supported during the improvement journey.

Cllr Pete Roberts, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, stated: "We acknowledge Estyn's assessment of Archdeacon Griffiths Church in Wales Primary School and the identified areas for improvement. This inspection report provides clear guidance on the necessary steps for improvement.

"We will work closely with the school's senior leaders to implement these changes as we embark on this improvement journey and address Estyn's recommendations."
