To coincide with Recycle Week 2024, the council's Waste Awareness Team will be hosting a series of Recycling Roadshows aimed at engaging with residents and promoting the importance of recycling, with a special focus on reducing and recycling our food waste.

The roadshows will take place throughout the week (14 - 20 October) at the following locations:

  • Monday 14 October, 10am - 2pm at TESCO Newtown
  • Tuesday 15 October, 10am - 2pm at TESCO Welshpool
  • Wednesday 16 October, 11am - 2pm at the Community Information Fair, Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells
  • Thursday 17 October, 10am - 2pm at TESCO Ystradgynlais
  • Friday 18 October, 10am - 2pm at TESCO Llandrindod Wells

Come along and meet the Waste Awareness Team who will be on hand to provide valuable information and practical tips on how to reduce waste and recycle more effectively. Residents will have the opportunity to learn about the environmental benefits of recycling, particularly food waste, and how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Whilst research shows that while we're a nation of recyclers many of us admit that we still occasionally throw away items that should have been recycled, especially when it comes to food. With a current county-wide recycling rate of 68.5% Powys residents are obviously doing their bit, but the Welsh Government statutory targets for next year is 70%, so it is doubly important that we all pull together and make that extra effort.

"We are thrilled to bring these roadshows to our communities during Recycle Week 2024," said Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys. "Our aim is to inspire and inform residents on the importance of recycling, especially our food waste, which is often thrown away with our rubbish instead of being recycled each week.

"I would encourage everyone to visit the roadshows, ask questions and take home some practical hints and tips that will help you recycle more efficiently. Together, we can create a cleaner, greener future for our community and make a positive impact on our environment."
