River Marteg Meets River Wye - Marteg Bridge

Welsh Government Action Plan and First Minister's Summits

Welsh Government has held a series of summits aimed at unlocking affordable housing within SAC catchments. It has prepared an action plan following the summit held on the 18th of July 2022.

Nutrient Management Boards

Powys County Council has an active role in both the river Wye and Usk Nutrient Management Boards.

River Wye

The Wye Nutrient Management Board, chaired by Herefordshire County Council, is made up of many stakeholders. The Board is cross boundary and is responsible for "ensuring the delivery of the Conservation Objectives" for the river Wye SAC. River Usk

The Usk Catchment Partnership is the Nutrient Management Board for the river Usk. The Partnership addresses not just phosphorus, but issues such as flooding and invasive non-native species. The Partnership is chaired by Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park Authority and more information can be found on the Usk Catchment Partnership website.

Environmental Permits

NRW is the body responsible for environmental permits and its guidance and advice can be found here: Environmental Permits.

Sustainable Drainage Schemes (SuDS) Approval

SuDS approval from the Powys SuDS Approval Body is a requirement where a proposed development is for more than one house or the construction area is 100m2 or more. More information can be found on our website: Sustainable Drainage Approval Body (SAB)
