Ystradgynlais Community Wellbeing Event

24 January 2024

Ystradgynlais Community Wellbeing Event
A free community well-being event is being held in a South Powys town next month, the county council has said.

As part of a joint project between Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board, the 'Ystradgynlais Community Well-Being Event' will be taking place on Thursday 8 February at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais, and available to drop into at any time between 10am and 5pm.

With multiple organisations available in one place, the event offers Ystradgynlais residents the opportunity to have a chat and share their experiences, but also allows the community to understand what support is available to them.

This event will be the launch of a wider project which will include further events, a Well-being Hub, as well as a well-being survey which can be completed on the day, enabling residents to have their say and actively influence future projects taking place in the area.

Organisations taking part in the event include, PAVO, Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board, Department for Work and Pensions, Dyfed Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire Service, Freedom Leisure and more.

Cllr Richard Church, Cabinet Member for a Safer Powys, said: "Following almost twice the national average of residents self-reporting that their health is bad or very bad, it's crucial that we host events such as this, to allow residents to have their say, so we can continue to support our communities and provide the correct resources to help improve our resident's health."

Mererid Bowley, Powys Teaching Health Board's Director of Public Health, said: "Quitting smoking is both one of the best things you can do to improve your health and also one of the hardest. With the support of others, it becomes so much easier. Come along and meet the team to see how they can help you. Remember, quitting isn't just for you, but it helps your friends and family as well!"

This event is being held as part of an ongoing project to promote the importance of health and well-being in the community.
