How can I be part of the solution to address Climate Change?
The climate and ecological emergency will require the actions of all of us. The Council is aiming to be net zero by 2030 along with much of the public sector in Wales.
- Based in Machynlleth, The Centre for Alternative Technology has been inspiring, informing and enabling solutions for sustainability for over 45 years. Transforming an old slate quarry into a visitor and educational centre to explore sustainability. They have a host of things you can do at home.
- Join a local group. Visit the Powys Green Guide to discover if there is a local action group in your area.
- On general advice at an individual level, Possible has a list of ten things you can do.
- Recycle as much as possible, we have guidance on our recycle pages.
- Draft proof and Insulate your home. Consider updating old heating system including the utilisation of heat pumps. Warm Wales provides funding for some measures for those in need through the Eco Powys grant. The Energy Saving Trust has details on reducing heat loss at home.
- For those outside the region who are looking for a Council committed to climate action, innovation on the circular economy, 100% renewable energy and more, how about moving to mid wales?

- Chose the low carbon option when shopping. Does the company you buy from support your values and address climate change? Consider supporting your local businesses #SupportLocalPowys
- You can learn about climate, nature and much more from our library service. Through Borrow Box you can get eBooks and eAudiobooks to enjoy from home.
- Talk about climate change in our daily life, with more information from Talk Climate.
- If you are in the farming and agricultural community, check out Farming Connect's advice on reducing green house gasses and increasing profit, work from IBERS (Aberystwyth University) such as fast growing grasses for Bioenergy and more or the work from the NFU on Achieving Net Zero.
- Consider what you can do at work as well. Would they join the race to zero?
